Our Work

Hope Through Action uses sport to enable the development of young people. Our life skills programmes are our priority, with sport providing a key part of the development process, especially in bringing large numbers of young people together. The indoor sports facilities provide year-round use and accessible, affordable, well-maintained facilities for the local community. The community sports centre provides a safe and secure environment for young people to play, learn and have fun, with trained staff and coaches who ensure that they have the opportunity to fulfil their potential.

Six core principles drive our work:

  • Health – with a focus on HIV/AIDs
  • Welfare – addressing basic needs of food and clothing
  • Education – integration with school, including those who are currently not in school
  • Leadership – community & family – “dare to be different”
  • Business development – for example entrepreneurial skills and financial management
  • Sports Excellence – coaching to achieve potential

We make our centre and sports coaches available to the local schools. This ensures that our work complements, rather than competes with, state education.

We also built and run the Nompumelelo Educare Centre in Mbekweni which cares for babies and young children between the ages of 0 and 6 years.
