Future Plans

Hope Through Action is delighted with the growing success of the Mbekweni community sports centre. We have listened to the centre’s users, coaches, the SCORE management team and communities to develop our plans for the future.

There is no doubt that young people living in South African townships face a range of challenges in their daily lives and need help to break the cycle of poverty and underachievement. There are many other communities in the Western Cape that we believe would benefit from our unique approach of combining a modern sports centre with tightly integrated development programmes. We therefore plan to build three more community sports centres and are currently in the process of selecting these communities using a formal assessment process to ensure that our funds are targeted at areas where maximum benefit can be achieved.

For Mbekweni Community Sports Centre our fundraising continues so that we can provide more outdoor facilities to complement the indoor centre, and to enable us to offer different sports and work with more young people. To reach those young people who do not enjoy sport, we hope to offer dance and arts workshops in future, all linked to the integrated development programmes. We plan to expand our programmes to include practical life skills, and extend the services available from the centre. To support our ambitions we will train more volunteer coaches to deliver our development programmes, so that we can reach more young people and build on the achievements so far.
